You can make stalagmites out of gelatin and static electricity. You can also make gumdrops out of gelatin.

You can make and out of gelatin and static electricity. Amaze your friends! Here's how McAveler did it:

Making static electricityHere's what McAveler needed

Package of unflavored gelatin

A balloon

Wool, like

A dish

Here's how you do it

Blow up the balloon and tie the opening shut.

Rub the balloon on the wool. This rubs electrons from the wool onto the surface of the balloon, producing an area charged with static electricity on the balloon.

Touch the balloon to the wall. What happens? Why?

Pour the gelatin into the dish.

Touch the charged area of the balloon to the dish of gelatin.

What happens? Why is the gelatin attracted to the balloon?

Making stalactites of gelationNow raise the balloon slowly. Why do miniature stalactites of gelatin form between the dish of gelatin and the balloon? Amazing!

A Message From Chico Chihuahua

Ask your parent or teacher to explain static electricity to you and watch them squirm. It's so much fun!

Listen, you can also make gelatin gumdrops. Click here for the simple recipe!
