Jerusalem--Holy City to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Learn more about the Holy City with preschool Bible crafts and activities

Old city JerusalemIt's a sunny afternoon. Where can we go to learn preschool Bible crafts to teach to our little cousins, McAveler?

Well, let's see, Mimi. I've always been interested in the Holy Land and the Holy City of Jerusalem. Wanna go?

Of course I do! Take my hand and let's jump to Jerusalem!

Wailing WallLook McAveler! There is the Old City and the Dome of The Rock. And that must be the Wailing Wall.

Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world, Mimi. It's history goes clear back to around 4,000 years BCE.

is considered Holy by three great religions--Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. That must be the al-aqsa mosque over there.

What a beautiful, historical place to learn preschool Bible crafts this is!

Was Jesus born here, McAveler?

al-aqsa mosque Jesus wasn't born in Jerusalem, Mimi. He was born in Bethlehem which means City of Bread in Hebrew. Bethlehem is located about 6 miles to the south of Jerusalem. That is also where King David was born.

So is where the boy David met the the champion of the Philistines, the mighty Goliath, in battle?

No Mimi, that happened in the valley of Elah southwest of Jerusalem.

Preschool bible crafts boy with long hairMcAveler, just look at that darling little boy standing over there! It looks like he's about to make an offering to help the poor. I wonder why his parents haven't cut his hair yet?

It's because many Jewish boys don't get their first haircut until the age of three on the holiday of Lag Ba'omer. The first haircut has special meaning in lots of different countries.

Mom saved a lock of my hair when I got my first haircut at two years of age. She said that was when I started to look like a little man instead of a girl.

Yum, yum, exclaims Mimi. Just look at the delicious looking bread that woman is making, McAveler. What is it called?

Braiding challah breadThey call it Challah Bread, Mimi. It's the bread used on the Sabbath and at many festivals.

When we get home, let's see if mom and dad will help us learn how to bake Challah Bread! It makes me so hungry just to look at it!

Mmmmm look, she's also feeding her son a delicious looking bowl of soup. I wonder what kind of soup it is, Mimi?

Boy eating matzo ball soupWow, McAveler, I'm surprised you don't know that. I know what it's called. It's called Matzo Ball Soup.

It's made with matzo meal, eggs, oil, salt and pepper. Hot and delicious.

I'm impressed, Mimi. Your knowledge about preschool Bible crafts is SOUPER!

Hey look at the craft that girl just made with soup spoons! I want to teach our little cousins how to make a Star of David with soup spoons for their preschool Bible crafts!

OK, but what can I teach them, McAveler?

How about a BAB, Mimi?

A BAB, what's that?

A bad attitude box. You know, we love them ever so much but sometimes they just aren't as nice and polite to others as they should be.

It might help them to do better if they make a bad attitude box and put some bad attitude in it!

I sure hope so, says Mimi, happily. You know, sometimes preschool Bible crafts can come in very handy!

McAveler, is there a Joanns Fabric Store in downtown Jerusalem?
