A Family Home Evening craft activity to preserve your family's past! Interview your grandmother or another older adult on video and play it at the next family reunion for everyone to see.
Here's what you need to make a family history video
that can tape an hour of video
Fully charged batteries for the camera to last an hour
A willing Grandmother
A quiet place to interview
Instructions
You are now a reporter
First of all, always get the permission of the person to video tape them
At the beginning of the interview, record the date, time, location and the names of the people present
If you ask questions about old photos or heirlooms, be sure to video tape them as well
Prepare at least 10 questions in advance. Some of them should be "open-ended" questions like "Tell us about your first day at school".
Here are some sample questions you might ask. Think up more on your own.
What is your birthdate?
Where were you born?
What were you parents' names? Grandparents' names?
When were they born?
Where were they born?
What was your favorite activity as a child?
How did you meet your spouse?
If you could live your life over, what would you do differently?
Do you have a favorite family recipe to share with us?

Kids, after making the video, look up the places where your ancestors came from on a map
