Use dried peas and toothpicks to make craft bridges, buildings, toys, molecules, and geometric shapes!

Use dried peas and toothpicks to make craft bridges, buildings, toys, molecules, and geometric shapes!

When peas dry out, they shrink. Soak them in water and they swell. This makes them ideal to use as joints for all kinds of toothpick craft designs.

Dried peas craftsHere's what you need

Toothpicks

Pan of cold water

Craft paints

Instructions

Soak the peas overnight.

Using toothpicks for structure and the peas as joints, you can build almost anything.

Try bridges, buildings, toys, figures, molecules, abstract shapes, geometric designs, or anything you can think of.

When you have completed a design, let the peas dry out again for a day or two.

Then paint your design as colorfully as you wish. Let the paint dry.

Now the peas and the paint will hold the toothpicks firmly in place.

How tall is your building?

Did you build a rocket ship?
