Canada for kids on Vancouver Island. Let's visit beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

Victoria BC Empress HotelCanada for kids on Vancouver Island. Let's visit beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Hey McAveler, it's so dreary here where we live in the winter. Let's jump to visit somewhere more cheery and bright. Any suggestions?

Hmmmm, well yes, let's jump to on Vancouver Island in Canada.

Canada? Brighter and cheerier in the winter? Are you serious? Victoria is way northwest of here, McAveler. How can it be cheerier in Victoria in the winter than it is here?

Well, OK, it's not exactly like Key West, Florida cheerier in the winter. But, by northwest standards, Victoria gets far less rainfall in the winter than Seattle, Washington.

Victoria FerriesIt gets only about half as much snow as it's neighbor, Vancouver, British Columbia. This is because Victoria lies in the "rain shadow" of Mount Olympus on the to the south in the state of Washington in the United States.

Being in the rain shadow also means that Victoria gets more sunshine than surrounding areas. With 2,223 hours of sun annually, Victoria is one of the sunniest places in British Columbia, and gets more sunshine than most other cities in Canada except those in the southern Prairies.

The benefits of Victoria's climate are evident through the city's beautiful gardens.

But McAveler, it's winter in Victoria. If we go now, we won't be able to see the beautiful gardens.

Not to worry, Mimi. Our grandpa visited in Victoria last September. And he made a video of it! Want to see his video? Just click below.

Wow! Those were spectacular flowers, McAveler. I'm ready to jump but we only have half a day to spend in Victoria. We have to be back home before 6:00 PM to take Chico to his obedience class. What else can we see in Victoria Canada for kids while we're there?

Butterfly GardensWell, we can see the beautiful Empress Hotel, the ferry boats, and the extraordinary And maybe while we're there, we can

learn how to make Rich And Famous Maple Syrup-Walnut Ice Cream

said McAveler dreamily!

Then, when we get home, we can

make a Maple Leaf Art project

to remember our trip by. Don't forget to grab a handful of maple leaves while we're there, says Mimi!

Great! Well, what are we waiting for, let's jump to Victoria!
