BYU is a large private university with alumni all over the world
Wow! BYU has a beautiful campus here in Provo, Utah, McAveler! Who owns this university?
I think it's owned by The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.
But we aren't members of that church, McAveler. Would they let us enroll?
Of course they would, Mimi, but Paul and Brad tell me that you have to and be an outstanding person in order to get in.
Why are the students speaking so many different languages, McAveler?
I don't know Mimi. Let's ask this student.
Excuse us, sir, can you tell us why people speak so many different languages here?
You must be visitors, welcome! My name is Jared. I'm from Lockhart, .
Well, we speak many languages here because people come here from all over the world to attend the university.
And because many of the students served a mission for the church before resuming their education.
Many times those missions take people to different countries. So they come back home speaking a new language. Would you like to ?
Maybe someday, says McAveler. Did you do a mission?
Yes, in Central America. In the countries of Guatemala and El Salvador.
How interesting, exclaimed Mimi! Tell me Jared, how big is the university?
We have over 34,000 students enrolled, if you add all three campuses together.
All three campuses, quizzed McAveler? I thought there was only one Brigham Young University.
Yes, says Jared. One, with campuses in Provo, Utah, Rexburg, Idaho, and Laie, Hawaii.
Hawaii, asked McAveler? Wow, if I attended this university, maybe I'd go to the Hawaii campus. I love fun at the beach.
But tell me, does BYU have three football teams or just one?
Just one, says Jared, and their games are played here, in Provo, Utah. There's the football stadium over there, said Jared, pointing to the North West corner of the campus.
Ah, well, in that case, mused McAveler, I'd want to attend here. Someday, I'd like to play NCAA football.
Well then, you'd like it here for sure, says Jared. But BYU is so much more than just football--for example BYU's International Ensemble draws huge crowds wherever they perform.
Students come here for a great education in a very good atmosphere and that can be hard to find sometimes.
Thanks a million for the information, Jared, says Mimi, very politely. We better be going now. It's almost time to feed our puppy, Chico Chihuahua.
Nice to meet you, says Jared. Maybe we'll meet again someday on campus!
Yes, maybe so, answers McAveler. I like what I see!
